Abstract
An in vitro culture technique is described which enables study of vine development in the absence of roots. This technique was used to follow the growth response to cytokinin of excised fruitful shoots and excised flowers. A cytokinin requirement for pistil development of hermaphroditic flowers was demonstrated, though functional embryo sacs were not developed in vitro.
