AB History indicates the existence of large and productive vines in early California, though records are not known of how they were developed. A vine was grown to determine what vines would do when given space, adequate trellis support, and rigorous crop control. The fruiting responses are presented in tabular form, while growth is indicated by trunk diameter and weight of prunings at the end of the tenth year.
