The statistical relation between the solids (X) and raisin quality, as described by the maturity requirements for US grade B or better raisins, (Y), was Y=-339.25+37.3X-0.8097X2. The correlation coefficient, R=0.867, was highly significant. The percentage of raisins grading B or better improved markedly with slight increases in soluble solids, up to approximately 22° Bal. Harvest date and year had little effect on the influence of soluble solids.
