Bark grafts were less successful.Notch grafts made in mid-April, about a month after bud burst but prior to bark slippage, were equal or superior to earlier grafting.Painting the scions and the black asphalt-water emulsion grafting compound with white interior latex or vinyl paints improved the success of either early or late grafts. These paints reduced moisture loss from the scion wood.
