Vaughn YR 1959 UL http://www.ajevonline.org/content/10/4/199.abstract AB Analysis of sewage and sewage-stillage mixtures by COD and BOD procedures indicates the usefulness of the COD method for predicting the degree of pollution of these materials in terms of 5-day or 20-day BOD. Specifically, COD values for raw sewage correlated well with the 5-day BOD; and raw sewage-stillage mixtures with COD values above 500 ppm were best correlated with 20-day BOD. All effluent samples from either straight domestic sewage or sewage-stillage mixtures had a COD-BOD relationship similar to that found for raw sewage. Equations are presented for estimating BOD values from the modified COD method employed in this work.
