Field-grown Riesling grapevines, which had developed a large water stress by harvest, were basin-irrigated. During the next two weeks, berry weight, °Brix and abscisic acid concentration in the juice remained fairly constant in both dry and irrigated vines, but proline concentration doubled. Irrigation had small effects on acidity, had no effect on juice proline levels, but reduced ABA levels to nearly half those in the juice from dry vines. The reduction in abscisic acid was not due to the formation of bound forms. ER -
