YR 1988 UL http://www.ajevonline.org/content/39/1/95.abstract AB Simple linear measurements of Concord grape leaves were tested for suitability as predictors of actual leaf area. True leaf areas were determined using a Li-CorTM leaf area meter and were examined for correlations of linear measurements of leaves and combinations of those measurements. Linear measurements were strongly correlated with actual leaf areas. Both a one- and a two-variable model were found suitable for estimating Concord leaf area: Area = -3.01 + 0.85 (W x L) (R2 = 0.9841) or Area = -1.41 + 0.527(W2) + 0.254(L2) (R2 = 0.9884) where W = maximum leaf width and L = length of the leaf midvein.
