Nowlin YR 1963 UL http://www.ajevonline.org/content/14/2/80.abstract AB For a seasonal operation such as the grape industry has, a triple-effect evaporator system cannot be justified for the capacity ranges common in the industry. A double-effect installation, however, should prove economical in almost all large installations where the season may be extended. At 500 gph capacity there is a cost spread of 1/2ยข per gallon concentrate between a double-and a single-effect operation with an 80-day operation. This amounts to $2.50 per hour, 24 hours per day, for 80 days, or $4,800.00 for the season. Since amortization costs, interest, etc., have already been accounted for, this represents actual plant profit.
