Five isozyme systems, MDH, GPI, DIAP, PGM, and LAP, presented identical banding patterns for two accessions of Cynthiana and for seven accessions of Norton. The color of the indument varied from white to rusty brown on shoot tips grown from cuttings, even within accessions. Plants with white shoot tips were infrequent. Pigmented shoot tips had the same isozyme profile as pigmentless shoot tips. No other significant morphological differences between the Norton and Cynthiana genotypes were noted. Norton and Cynthiana may be cultivars derived from the same clonal source.
