SMP treatment was superior to HP treatment for yield, sugar production per vine, and dry matter production. [unknown]Brix was occasionally reduced by SMP. These effects of SMP treatment could be explained by the larger total leaf area produced and the greater length of time during which the leaves were active. These results are especially important in our low-yield model of viticulture with a very limited total leaf area.
