Analysis with 33 polymorphic microsatellites (SSRs) indicate that Albariño and Loureira could be related to the Caíño group in western Galicia, Spain. Likelihood ratios support the hypothesis of significant parentage relationship between Albariño and Caíño Bravo as parents of Caíño Blanco. Loureira shared alleles for each locus with Caíño Bravo, indicating close relationship by hybridization. Caíño Bravo was related directly with four cultivars: Caíño Blanco, Caíño Longo, Castañal and Loureira, as well as with two others (Caíño Redondo1 and Sousón) but with one less loci out of 33, indicating that it could be the origin of this lineage, being the key cultivar of the Caíño group.
