Abstract
Dry matter digestibilities of several grape pomace varieties are compared in cow, sheep and goat by in-vitro technique. Values obtained (26%-39%) are low compared to alfalfa hay (69%) or sudan-grass (65%). Total phenols and tannic acid equivalent are determined and influence on digestibility is evaluated. Pre-extraction with cold or warm water reduces the total phenol level but also removes water soluble nutrients. The value of grape pomace as animal feed is discussed in light of these and other results.
