Abstract
A method of training lightly pruned Sultana vines on the V-shaped, twelve-wire Tatura Trellis has been described. Ungrafted vines produced in the second through fifth crops a total of up to 182 t/ha fresh fruit when five years old. Sixty-six percent of the crop weight was located at the top wire five years after planting the vines. It was difficult to contain shoot growth within the pre-determined space of 1 m between adjacent cordons. To overcome the physiological and vine management problems associated with this particular method, two alternative methods of training Sultana vines are evaluated.
