Abstract
Viticulturists and vintners must have accurate estimates of vineyard yields in order to make the necessary plans for a vintage. However, estimating yields is difficult because of inherent variability from vine to vine and block to block. Variability can be accounted for by using proper sampling methods and sample size calculations. The purpose of this article is to briefly review some aspects of sampling and to present a computationally simple, two-step method for yield estimation.
