Abstract
The reported parentage of the grape variety Cruzado de Rabo de Ovelha was examined by the use of 12 microsatellite DNA markers. The microsatellite profile of Cruzado de Rabo de Ovelha was identical to that of Castelo Branco, supporting ampelographic analysis indicating they are the same variety. Data are consistent with the parentage of Castelo Branco being Fernão Pires and Diagalves as reported. Rabo de Ovelha was ruled out as a parent of Cruzado de Rabo de Ovelha at 4 of the 12 loci.
