Grape Growing in Sonoma County

Abstract

In summarizing, the tremendous obstacles that today's grower has to contend with are: large overhead, low yield, low return, unsatisfactory help, limited success in replanting, and lack of stability in the industry.

Furthermore, it is only too obvious that with the present price for grapes and with no indication of a change, the tonnage in Sonomo County will continue to decrease. It is indeed regrettable and a grievous loss to all concerned, that the finest dry wine grapes in the state, due to economic conditions beyond the grower's control, are rapidly losing their position.
