  • Supplemental Figure 1   Effect of covering leaves at different stages in the procedure used to determine leaf water potential using a pressure chamber. Treatments were B + B: leaf enclosed in clear bag before cutting petiole and during pressurization; B + N: leaf enclosed in clear bag before cutting petiole, but bag removed before pressurization; N + B: no bag used before cutting petiole, but leaf enclosed in bag during pressurization; and N + N: no bag used at any time. Bars present the means and standard error for each treatment on each occasion (n = 5 to 8). Letters designate significant groups based on Fisher’s least significant difference at 95% confidence.
