A comparison of results with standard colorimetric results showed large discrepancies. When the colorimetric standard was changed to include n-propyl, iso-butyl, n-butyl, and isoamyl alcohols in the ratio 775:225:25:25, the results were found to be more comparable. This ratio was found to be about the average for the higher alcohols found by the gas chromatographic method.
