Heavy cropping delayed fruit maturation and resulted in straggly clusters with small berries. It also induced premature drying of foliage. Overcropping in `Carignane' moderately reduced the level of total available carbohydrates (sugars and starch) in the roots. Three years of overcropping did not markedly weaken the vines of any variety. ER -
