AB  - Surveys of ascospore deposition in grape growing regions of the Salinas Valley and the Central Valley of California using one-year-old apricot trees as biological spore traps were made during the years 1978-1981. Results indicate that ascospores of Eutypa armeniacae are transported by wind for distances of at least 50-60 km. Our results indicate that in storms of 1980 and 1981 wind patterns of individual storms apparently affected the deposition rates at several Salinas Valley locations. Also, the Greenfield area of the Salinas Valley shows a consistently high risk for Eutypa dieback based on deposition rates.
