These were used, together with an existing model for diatomaceous earth filtrations, for the analysis of volume-time data from small-scale constant-pressure filter tests. The most suitable model for each situation was chosen to be that which was in closest agreement with the test data. Predictions of pilot-scale filtrations with varying pressure differences were made by combining the chosen model for the filter with the flow characteristic of the pump being used and integrating these rate equations with respect to time. Pilot-scale measurements of the pressure differential across the filter and the filtrate volume at various times were compared with those of the model predictions.
