Kliewer YR 1983 UL http://www.ajevonline.org/content/34/2/114.abstract AB Light and/or ethephon treatments given to two table grape cultivars produced significant changes in anthocyanins and phenolics in the skin of both varieties without any significant changes in soluble skin carbohydrate. There was no relationship between soluble carbohydrates and anthocyanins or soluble carbohydrates and total phenolics in the skins. These results are evidence that soluble sugar levels are not the causal agent of phenolic accumulation in grape skins.
