Two were identified as leucocyanidin compounds and the third as a leucodelphinidin. The fourth compound was not characterized. One of the leucocyanidins and the leucodelphinidin inhibited reproduction by Staphylococcus aureus, Lactobacillus casei, and Escherichia coli. The other leucocyanidin was without effect on S. aureus, but it inhibited L. casei and E. coli. As to oxygen uptake by resting cells of E. coli, S. aureus, Salmonella enteritidis, and Shigella paradysenteriae, the compounds varied in their action according to the organism and pH. In general, oxygen uptake was stimulated at pH 7.0 and depressed at pH 4.3.}, issn = {0002-9254}, URL = {https://www.ajevonline.org/content/16/2/54}, eprint = {https://www.ajevonline.org/content/16/2/54.full.pdf}, journal = {American Journal of Enology and Viticulture} }
