Results highlight the extent to which scientific positions can help to explain the emergence of some countries as new participants in the wine industry and established countries as old participants defending their positions. We also examined the extent to which the scientific wine community is in itself becoming increasingly more global through international co-publications. Results suggest that geographical trends in the scientific wine community are only partly related to the shifts in globalization patterns in the wine industry.
